5 reasons why Ryan Reynolds is a badass in the new Deadpool trailer #NSFW

2016 is set to bring with it a host of epic superhero movies – but few are more anticipated than Deadpool. Actor Ryan Reynolds embodies the suited, wisecracking Marvel superhero in an origin story that promises to do the character justice, following his ill-treatment in 2009's X-Men Origins: Wolverine.

We've broken down the awesome, blood-soaked and very funny red band trailer and brought you the 5 moments where Reynolds cements his reputation as geek-dom's latest badass...

1) Inner demons

No 21st century superhero movie is complete without some sort of internal conflict. And boy does Reynolds' Special Forces Operative Wade Wilson have those. Not only is he afflicted with cancer throughout his body, he also wants to do right by those closest to him. For an actor primarily famous for light comic roles, Reynolds looks to have the brooding anguished routine down pat. Well, let's not forget he did star in the chillingly claustrophobic, coffin-based Buried.

2) New beginnings

It's only a matter of time before a mysterious government official turns up to offer Wilson a chance at redemption by becoming part of a top-secret experiment. The aim is to cure him – but of course it goes horribly wrong, transforming Wilson into a horribly scarred figure who ultimately seeks vengeance on those that wronged him. Not that this cramps his witty style, as we'll see momentarily.

3) Suited and booted

The first appearance of Reynolds in the distinctive red and black Deadpool suit also confirms that this is a superhero with a dark sense of humour, as we see him sketching a fight with a baddie whilst grooving to a cassette. Very Guardians of the Galaxy – and the irreverent tone can't help but remind us of Matthew Vaughn's brilliant Kick-Ass too. And talking of witty superhero movies loaded with ultra-violence...

4) No messing!

Deadpool ain't just a quip-meister – as this brutal car fight demonstrates. Proves that Reynolds is capable of packing a punch when necessary (remember the fight sequences in Safe House?) Still, having dispatched the baddies, he can't resist making a classic 'red shirt/brown trousers' gag to the remaining villains who have come to kill him.

5) The joker

One of the film's highlights looks set to be the bromantic relationship between Deadpool and his best mate Weasel (played by Cloverfield's T.J. Miller). The insults used to describe our hero's scarred visage are hilariously rude and frankly NSFW. Check them out in the trailer below.

Take a look at the Deadpool trailer and prepare for a cheekier kind of comic book movie when it hits screens on 4th February 2016. Also don't forget to tweet your thoughts @Cineworld.
